1. A)The coefficient of performance or COP (sometimes CP or CoP) of a heat pump, refrigerator or air conditioning system is a ratio of useful heating or cooling provided to work required.

A refrigerant as R12, R22 or now R134a would need to be compressed and require more energy to change its state of liquid to gas to absorb and carry away heat.
