Explanation / Answer

The net force acting on an object is the vector sum of all forceswhich act on that object. When one object exerts a force on another object, the second objectalways exerts a force back onto the first object which is equal inmagnitude and opposite in direction. That is the definition of anaction/reaction pair. So they cannot point in the same direction, they can never act on the same object, they aren't always longrange forces, so by process of elimination, the answer would bed.
