Technically, it could have been either 437 or 443.But what they want you tosay is that it was 437. This is because when you increasethe length of the trumpet, its frequency gets lower. Since the beatfreq increased, you can assume that increasing the length made thetrumpet's freq further from 440... and it was made lower. . Therefore, we can assume the original freq was lower than 440also. In other words, it went from 437 to 435 when the trumpet was lengthened. . So why technically it could have been either? Becausetechnically, it could have started at either 443 or 437 and beenlowered to 435. But they want you to assume it started out too low,at 437, and went even lower, to 435.Related Questions
