Explanation / Answer

15. e. When coupled to an endergonic reaction, most of the free energy of ATP is released as heat.

The hydrolysis of ATP is an exergonic process. That is why AP hydrolysis is coupled to reactions that require input of energy. This enalbes the endergonic reaction to occur. Most of the energy released during ATP hydrolysis, during a coupled reaction, is used to drive the reaction. Hence, there is minimum loss of energy in the form of heat. Thus, the option e is not correct.

16. d. In hypertonic surroundings, water will flow into cells. In hypertonic solutions, water moves out from the cell and the cell shrinks.

17. c. Movement of substances is based on diffusion. MOvement of substances across a channel protein is mediated by the protein. The substance of interest binds to the protein. The substance may be transported either across a concentration gradient or against concentration gradient.
