A changing magnetic field will induce an emf in a conductingloop (Faraday's law of induction). The induced emf is proportionalto the magnetic flux intercepted by the surface spanned by theloop. In order to maximize the induced current, we have to maximizethe induced emf, and therefore maximize the magnetic fluxintercepted by the loop. This can be achieved of the loop islocated perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field.
