Question
Okay, this is my 1st time posting, the thing in this problem thatis throwing me off is the friction. I don't know how to takeit in to effect.The Question is:
A block of mass 5.00 kg compresses a spring (spring constant k=96.5N/m) a distance d=0.600 m from its equilibrium position; the blockis not attached to the spring. The block is then released from restand moves across a smooth (frictionless) horizontal surface untilit encounters and moves up an inclined plane which makes an angleof =42.0 degrees with respect to the horizontal. Thecoefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the inclinedplane is k=0.200. What distance D measured alongthe plane will the block move up the plane before coming torest?

Relative equations
U_el=1/2kx^2
KE=1/2mv^2
I know you are converting all of your potential elastic energy intoKenetic energy, so you set the equations equal to eachother.
So, 1/2kx^2=1/2mv^2 , but then you have friction, and this iswhere I am stuck. I dont know how to
account to the friction.
Can anyone help me please?!?
Explanation / Answer
The friction does Work. I think you've to add W=Fs to your energy equation. Where F = friction force = Fn (coefficent x normal force)
