Question
The Question is ...Your team is in charge of launching a large helium weatherballoon that is spherical in shape, and whose radiusis 2.6 m and total massis 14.6 kg (balloon plus heliumplus equipment)
What is the initial upwardacceleration of the balloon when it is released from sealevel?
I know that P = F / A, so F =P*A, and F = m*a
I rearranged the equation tosolve for a (the acceleration) and got
a = (P*A) / m
Since it is lifted off at sealevel I assumed that P = 101.325 kPa
r is given 2.6 meters, m isgiven 14.6 kg, and for A is used pi*r^2
I then plugged all of this intothe equation that I set up to get a = (101.325*(pi*(2.6)^2)) /14.6
my answer came out to be147.387 N / kg and since N = kg * m/s^2 the kg cancelled andleft me with m/s^2 but my answer is not correct. (we have anelectronic homework system)
I was just wondering where Iwent wrong or if I have the wrong approach?
