Question

Lab 5: Resistor Combinations& Electronic Components bjective: We have learned how resistors are supposed to add in parallel and series. Now we will see if what we have learned is true. Materials: Prototyping Board .Power Supply * 1000 ? Resistor (Brown/Black/Brown) 2200 2 Resistor (Red/Red/Brown) ? Resistor (Yellow/PurpleBrown) . Multimeter to be used as an Ammeter Multimeter to be used as Voltmeter Wire Kit 2 Banana Clip Connecting Wires Alligator Clips, Banana Wires Available to Students . Pre-Lab Questions: Series 1. What is the total resistance of three resistors added in series whose resistances are 1000 ?, 2200 ?, and 4700 ?? 1000-4 2200-4 1100-4 If these three resistors are in series with a 9 volt power supply, what current should flow through them? 2. 0001 2200A 11" 2200 3 1100 3. What should the voltages on cach resistor be?

Explanation / Answer

solution 1 is perfectly fine.

solution 2. since all the resistors are in series so current through them will be same.

required current = total voltage/ total resistance = 9/7900 = 0.00114 ampere

solution 3 .. voltage across 1000 ohm is = current * resistance = 0.00114*1000 = 1.14 volt

voltage across 2200 ohm = 0.00114*2200 = 2.51 volt

voltage across 4700 ohm = 0.00114*4700 = 5.36 volt
