Question
Background: This is from a physics lab we had on analyzing an RC circuit. 1st Part: We used a power supply at 4V and .400Hz set at square wave mode. We then observed the RC circuit on an oscilloscope. 2nd Part: We then set power supply at 4V and 0Hz square wave mode, and used a multimeter to calculate the time constant half-life.
Question: "Since you analyzed the charging of a capacitor for a DC charging voltage, how is it possible that you can apply the analysis when a square wave is applied to the capacitor? Write out your answer in a clear and well supported paragraph."
Explanation / Answer
In the first case as we have given a DC power supply but with a frequency of 400Hz which changes the motion of the voltage wave form after every 2.5ms hence it may be constant voltage with a frequency changing after a certain interval of time hence maing the charging and recharging of the capacitor after every motion .And while finding the time constant we used the same DC supply we have 0Hz where it is total constant voltage for infinite hour of time and no recharging and discharing exponentially for certain period of time .Hence the same supply can be used by varying the frequency and mode to find the results of the analysis
