Question
Two people start at the same place and walk around a circular lakein opposite directions. One walks with an angular speed of 1.7× 10-3 rad/s, while the other has an angularspeed of 3.4 × 10-3 rad/s. How long will itbe before they meet?answer is 1200 seconds.
the solutions manual in cramster has the wrong solution, andtherefore wrong procedure. PLEASE help!!! Two people start at the same place and walk around a circular lakein opposite directions. Explanation / Answer
Lets say they meet in 't' seconds. So how much distance would the first guy have covered moving at 1.7* 10-3 rad/s ? Well, 1.7 * t * 10-3 radians. Similarly, the second guy would have covered 3.4 * t *10-3 radians. Now we know when they meet, they both would have walked over acomplete circle together ( of course, one having walked longer thanthe other ). So we know, if we sum up the two radians from the two guys, weshould get the total number of radians in a full circle, which is2. ( 1.7 + 3.4 ) * t * 10-3 radians = 2 * radians t = 1.232 * 103 seconds So its close to 1200 but not exactly. Hope this helps. Lemme know if you've questions.
