Question

Q: A rectangular coil consists of N=100 closely wrapped turns andhas dimensions a=.4 m and b=.3 m. The coil is hinged alongthe y axis and its plane makes angle theta=30 degrees with the xaxis. What is the magnitude of the torque exerted on the coilby a uniform magnetic field B=.8 T directed along the x axis whenthe current is I=1.2 A in the direction shown? What is theexpected direction of rotation of the coil?

#3-D plot looks like normal except swap the z and y axes
#I runs along coil in the positive x, z direction (away from yaxis) if you were to look straight down at the plot
#sorry, i don't know how to get the figures on here like otherpeople do

<question in reference to the solution for this problem>

where did the angle come from?

why isn't the angle 30 degrees?

how did the direction of rotation get determined?

-the way I see it, B makes an angle of 30 degrees with I, if B runsalong the x axis.
-not sure how to user the right-hand rule here

Please be explicit...really trying to get this! Thanks!
