Question
A team of experimenters completed their experiment which they started at 8:00 am and ended at 5:00 pm. During the day, the ambient temperature increased from 60degreeF to 90degreeF. The experimenters suspect that the dependent variable may have a weak dependence on the ambient temperature. ander what conditions would you recommend that the results be retained? Provide a paragraph that justifies this position. ander what conditions would you recommend that the results be abandoned? Provide a paragraph that justifies this position. ander what conditions would you consider this a confoanded experiment? Provide a paragraph that justifies your position. What are three ways to "handle" extraneous variables? Give specific examples of each way.Explanation / Answer
a. This result should be retained if it doesnt look like the values change a lot with the increases of temperature, if the values look in a margin of data, and if you considerer all other factors that can afect the result, then you should keep this values
b. If there are a lot of "handle" values, that would be like if there are some values extreamly high of extreamly small, these means that something different that you want is affecting this result, if it happens then all the work that you did doesnt going to work
c. If the temperature of the exterior have a significant role in the values that you experiment, if it happens the fact that you are experiment doesnt show what you want, so you are expriment with something else so you got it: a confunded experiment, is like the person who found that the plumb affect our healh, he wasnt looking for that, but in his experiment the plumb in the exterior afects so he finished experiment with a different thing that he started
d. 1. Removing this values directly: if this shows a very extraneaus value so you doesnt have to retain that, is like when something in a poll put a very extraneaus value, for example, that he has 29 children, so you can ignore this because it is a case very remote of all
2. Doing the experiment again: if there are a lot of this extraneaus values you should do this again, so maybe the method of analysis wasnt the correct.
3. You need to recognize if something else is afecting your values, like in this case, maybe the temperature of the ambient is afecting
