Part2
Answer the two applied questions in the space provided
1. A common ball point pen contains many parts including a spring, small plastic tube (ink cartridge), tungsten carbide ball and brass tip. Have a go at guessing how each would be made in high volumes. You may use diagrams to help you.
2. Connecting rods (conrods) similar to the one shown are used to connect the crank shaft with the pistons in automobiles. Describe with reasons which main manufacturing process you would choose to produce a conrod in the following scenarios:
Scenario 1: A new CAD design is to be made for a mock-up of a new car engine.
Scenario 2: One million are to be produced for a small family car where cost and safety is the most critical factor.
Scenario 3: One hundred are to be made for a high performance car where strength to weight is the most critical performance criteria.
Explanation / Answer
Scenario 1: I would use working manual, in machines, so I can control all the details of the desing, I would hire technical, and they would do the job with the specification
Scenario 2: I would use foundry because I can controlling the process to produce many parts, with saf, and in the correct times
Scenario 3: I would use "remoción de material" (in spanish, I don´t know how to say it in english) it consist to work the material base directly with the machines and I would have all the machines automated, so all the product would have hight performance
