Question

Many hospitals today are focusing their organizational resources on becoming a Center of Excellence, concentrating on one or more categories of disease or special types of service. What do you see as some of the forces driving hospitals? Can you think of a hospital or health system in your area that is promoting itself as the "heart" center, the "women's health" center, or some other specialty area? This is sometimes termed "boutique" healthcare. Does this seem like a good strategy in today's health care market?

Explanation / Answer

Several hospitals have been racing towards specialty health care systems. Each hospital has its own centre of excellence in a particular specialty. Due to competition between the hospitals, the strategies to attract the patients for excellence have become an important tool. The hospitals have been focusing on a particular service to become centre of excellence. Many of the hospitals have been coming out of the boundaries of the traditional system of health care. The hospitals have been uplifting consumer minded patients through their centers of excellence. The specialized hospitals inscribing heart health care or cardiology, oncology, bariatric surgery, nephrology, gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics and many more specialty designed hospitals have been giving specialized care to its patients. Thus hospitals have been come out of the phrase "hospital systems" and moving towards centre of excellence.
