Find charge Q and voltage V after each of the following steps:(a) A parallel plate capacitor of capacitance C0, with a dielectric between the plates (relative permittivity's) has been charged to a potential V0. The capacitor is then disconnected from the charging source, (b) The dielectric is now removed from between the plates, (c) The capacitor is momentarily reconnect to the charging source of voltage V0, then disconnected, (d) The dielectric is now replaced between the plates.Explanation / Answer
a) Q Remains same Q=C0 V0 , V also remains same if there is no charging path. V=V0
b) Q Remains same Q=C0 V0 but V is greater than V0
c) As capacitor does not allow momentarily change in voltage so charge and voltage remains same as in case(b).
d) Q Remains same but if same dielectric is introduced again whatever the amount of voltage that has increased in case(b), the voltage in this case decreases by same amount. finally V= V0
