please answer the first 3 questions
Geologic map interpretation, cross-section construction and interpretation There are 4 simple geologic maps that can be found at the end of the exercise, each with a legend. Before answering the questions for each map you must NEATLY colour the map and associated legend. Once the map is coloured answer the questions that pertain to the maps. Note there is no topography (flat) and that north is towards the top of the page Map A 1. What type of geologic contact exists between the granite and the Cretaceous sedimentary rocks? 2. What type of geologic contact exists between the quartz arenite and shale? 3. What is the oldest unit on Map A? How do you know this? Sketch a geologic cross-section across the entire map area in a geologically appropriate orientation below the map. Hint: it is typically appropriate to draw a cross-section that is across the strike of the main geologic features in the area, e.g., bedding, faults, folds, etc. Make sure you put on the line of section on the map. Check your line of section with a TA before you sketch the section 4.Explanation / Answer
1. The geologic contact is intrusive contact.
2. The geologic contact is fault contact.
3. Oldest unit is granite. We can say that because the younger units of just concealing a bigger part of the older unit (which is granite). If the younger units are stopped away, we can see the continuation of the granite only beneath it.
