Question
I am lost, I don't know how we can determine if a warrant is met or not or if there isnt enough information. I've attached the book's solution to one example. I would highly aprreciate it if someone helps me with approaching a signal warrants problem. Please include the steps to the solution.Step 1 The following warrants allow the engineer to evaluate whether or not the intersection satisfies the requirements. Warrant 1: Eight hour vehicular volume: There is no indication that the 70% reduction factor applies, so it is assumed that either Condition A or Condition B must be met at 100% or both must be met at 80%. Here, condition A is satisfying. Therefore, warrant 1 is met. Warrant 2: Four hour vehicular volume: There is no any hourly volume data against four hour warrant provided. Therefore, warrant 2 is not satisfied. Warrant 3: Peak hour: There is no any hourly volume data against peak volume warrant provided. Therefore, warrant 3 is not satisfied. Warrant 4: Pedestrian volume: This warrant includes both a four-hour criterion and a peak-hour criterion, only one of which must be met to satisfy it. Here, Area of population is 50,000, and approach speeds are 45 mi h. which satisfies the Four hour pedestrian warrant.
Explanation / Answer
Hi,
Hope it helps.
This kind of questions are very easy and straight forward. One just need to think over it logically.
For warrant 6, i.e, Coordinated signal problem as an example, just see whether sufficient information is given about signal problem or drawback , if it is given and you could come with conclusion or linkage of that point with intersection then the warrant can be applied else not.
Hope you are clear with it.
Please post if any difficulties.
Thanks.
