Question
1) this is an open ended question butHow many calories do typical people burn when they run stairs? What is the range of typical values? How much power does a typical person exert when they exercise? How would engineers calculate these things using first law of thermodynamics?
2)EMS program has proposed having students design electrical power generation by connecting exercise machines to electric generator to the grid.
Issues. How much does electrical power cost now and in the foreseeable future? How much money can be saved? How much power can be generated per machine? How much much power could be generated if SRC was full of people exercising? How much power does a typical person produce? Is this technically feasible? Is this economically feasible. Should this make sense economically or inspiration a good enough reason? How could this project idea be improved? What types of mechanical efficiency would be reasonable?
Apply using the first law of thermodynamics .
Explanation / Answer
I'm not much help for more than just the first question. For 15 minutes of stair-running its 150 calories. It is a low duration, high stroke volume exercise that requires vigorous movement.
