Suppose you are interested in making CD-quality recordings of the sounds of baleen whales, which are found in the frequency range 10 Hz - 31 kHz, considerably beyond the range of normal human hearing (20 Hz - 20 kHz). To record the whales, you will need recording equipment to accommodate the higher frequencies of whale sounds, but only one channel is needed. Estimate approximately how long a recording you can make that will fit onto a standard CD. Explain your assumptions.

As a normal CD records two stereo channels, sample to sound level at 44.1 kHz with 16 bit accuracy and take time upto 74 minutes , so for a single channel in the range of 10 Hz to 31 kHz , it will take (74/2) = 37 minutes roughly or less than that only .
