Question
The resistors that were available to build these circuits were one of each of the following: 10 kW, 15
kW, 22 kW, and 33 kW. Each resistor has an uncertainty in its value of 10%. Two potential difference
measurements were made they were VBC = 3.19V and VCD= 4.68V. The current from the battery was
0.213 mA.
1. Determine which of the two circuits corresponds to the given measurements. Explain
2. Determine the components and their arrangement in the circuit.
3. What is the potential difference VAD for each circuit (and yes A is in the correct location).
Explanation / Answer
I assume the resistor readings should be kohms not kw 1) the voltage values go to the circuit 2, because in the Vsource 10 V-VCD=5.32 V for the parallel circuit but VBC is 3.19 V, clearing this can not be for circuit 1 2) VBC=3.19 V at 0.213 mA the resistance value for VBC: 3.19 V/0.000213 A=15 kohm VCD=4.68 V at 0.213 mA the resistance value for VCD: 4.68 V/0.000213 A=22 kohm VAB=2.13 V at 0.213 mA the resistance value for VAB: 2.13 V/0.000213 A=10 kohm if also assuming pt A is in the circuit 3) again I assume A is in the circuit 1 and 2, therefore the reading across the battery would be 10 V (VAD)
