He insists on throwing 25.0 g rocks at your new 2.25 kg light fixture hanging by a 26.0 cm wire from the ceiling of your porch. If each rock strikes the fixture traveling at 10.0 m/s, how high will the light fixture go after it is hit by one of these new missiles?
h= ?m
I did a search for the solution to this problem and attempted to solve it with the solution provided by one of the cramster apprentices and it was not correct. Please assist.
Explanation / Answer
Ec + Ep = Ec' + Ep' g= Gravitymv2/2 + mgh = mv2/2 + mgh
mv2/2 + 0 = 0 + mgh mv2/2 + 0 = 0 + mgh Inicial "h" = 0
Final velocity on the lamp = 0 because it is at it's highest point
Gravity it about 10m/s2
2.25 x 0.011 x 0.011 + 0 = 2.25 x 10 x h
h = 0.000012m Conclusion: The lamp will go up 0.0012cm (cm = centimeters)
