Question

A child of mass m sits in a swing supported by two chains, each of length R. The tension in each chain at the lowest point is T.
(a) Find the child's speed at the lowest point. (Use any variable or symbol stated above along with the following as necessary: g.)
speed =?

(b) Find the force exerted by the seat on the child at the lowest point. (Neglect the mass of the seat. Use any variable or symbol stated above along with the following as necessary: g.)
n =?

Im confused with this because there isnt a force in the x direction, and also does the tension get counted twice because there are two chians?

Explanation / Answer

B is 2T b/c sum of forces in the y-direction gives you 2T-N=0 so solving this gives you N=2T.
