Question

We are supposed to solve these problems using 2D projectile motion and Kinematic equations.

A plane traveling at 55.0m/s is diving at an angle or 25.0o below the horizontal when it releases an aid package. The package hits at a point 245.0m horizontally from its release point. From what height was it dropped? I know: ax= 0 , ay= -9.8m/s2, vi= 55.0m/s , hy= 245.0m I've tried to draw a picture or this problem in my notebook, which normally helps but I'm at a total loss as to how to solve this problem. Help Please! A plane traveling at 55.0m/s is diving at an angle or 25.0o below the horizontal when it releases an aid package. The package hits at a point 245.0m horizontally from its release point. Explanation / Answer

In projectile motion THe maximum height reached hy = u^2(sin?)^2 /2g Here u is initial velocity      = 55.0 m/s ? = 25^0 g = 9.8 m/s^2 hy = (55.0 m/s)^2*(sin25)^2 / 2*9.8 m/s^2 hy = 27.56 m
