Question
How do I determine the average velocity from the slope of a graph? My graph produced the slope intercept form as: Y=32.856x+8.5025 Sorry. It's a distance vs time graph. So let me get this straight. The slope of a distance vs time graph gives the velocity and the slope of a velocity vs time graph gives the acceleration?? How do I determine the average velocity from the slope of a graph? The slope of a distance vs time graph gives the velocity and the slope of a velocity vs time graph gives the acceleration??Explanation / Answer
The given slope intercept form asy = 32.856x + 8.5025
which is in the form y = mx+c
If we draw a graph between displacement verses time graph then
the intercept form
x = x0 + vt
when we compare
Here the x-intercept is time
then the average velocity v = 32.856 m/s
and initial displacement x0 = 8.5025 m
Thus for an object moving with a constant velocity,
the slope if the straight line in position -time graph gives the velocity.
