A ball on a porch rolls 60 to the porch's edge, drops 40 , continues rolling on the grass, and eventually stops 80 from the porch's edge. What is the magnitude of the ball's total displacement, in centimeters?
I don't understand, I googled it and got the answer, but is the ball dropping directly 90 degrees down? Not adding to it's displacement? A ball rolls 60cm porch so the displacement of the ball A = 60i then it falls so the displacement is along vertical then displacement B = 40(-j) and agian it rolls on ground so the displacement is C = 80i Therefore the displacement d = A+B+C = 60i -40j + 80i = 140i - 40j cm Then magnitude d = 145.6cm
