over the ocean. The plane’s horizontal veloc-

was dropped.
The acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s2 .
What is the magnitude of the overall veloc-
ity of the hamper at the instant it strikes the
surface of the ocean?

Given that vo = 142 m/s                 y-yo = -5260 m The time take to move travel vertical distance is          -5260 = vosin * t - 0.5 g t2 Where measured relative to positive direction of thex-axis.          -5260 = 142 * sin0* t - 4.9t2       ==> t = 32.76 s The horizontal component of velocity vx = 142 m/s The vertical component of velocity vy = vosin - g*t                                                         = 0 - 9.8 * 32.76                                                         = 321.08 m/s ==> v = 142 i - 321.08 j magnitude |v| = 351.04 m/s direction = -66o
