Question
I know that the equation for efficienct of energy capture is: energy captured/energy released but i cant quite figure out these problems.
The metabolic pathway known as B-oxidation converts a 16-carbon fatty acid to 8 molecules of acetyl- coA. During this pathway 2 molecules of ATP are used, and none are generated directly. However, 7 molecules of NADH and 7 molecules of FADH2 are produced a) What is the net total number of ATP molecules produced (under aerobic conditions) from the complete conversion of this fatty acid to 16 molecules of CO2? b) Assuming that for ADP Pi ATP AGO 7.5 kcal/mole and that for the conversion of the fatty acid to 16 CO2 AGO 2,340 kcal/mole what is the efficiency of energy capture during this process (i.e. what of the energy which is released is captured in ATP)?Explanation / Answer
1. 7 molecules of NADH and 7 molecules of FADH2 produced
