Our net recoil is c) zero. Newton's 3rd law of motion states that "Whenever a firstbody exerts a force F on a second body, the secondbody exerts a force F on the first body.F and F are equal inmagnitude and opposite in direction. " Consider the firing of agun: the explosion of gunpowder allows the gun to push on thebullet. Consistent with the third law, the bullet (in escaping)pushes back on the gun with equal force. If you simply go through the motions of throwing the ballwithout actually throwing it, you are not exerting a force on thatball. Thus, in turn, the ball will not exert any force upon you.There is no NET recoil.
