Question
Hi,My son had this question yesterday. I triedto help him but I think I fell short.
A negatively charged wall has a ball of 0.01Kg attached via anon-conductive thread of neglible mass. The length of the thread is0.3meters The electric field is horizontal. The ballhas a charge of -80Farads. The electric force on theball is 32Newtons.
Find the Electric field at the location of the ball.
Find the perpendicular distance that the ball is from thewall
Find the magnitude of the acceleration of the ball just afterthe thread is cut
I wanted to use E = KQ/r(2) but have 2 unknowns E and r
Appreciate any pointers.
Thanks,

Explanation / Answer
We know that F = Eq So that we can write E = F / q = 32 / 80 x 10-6 = 0.4 x 10-6N/C Hints : acceleration a = E q / m
