   When the elevator descending        Tension T = m (g-a) = m(9.8 + 3.0 )    therefore mass m = T / 12.8 = 4.14kg when the elevator ascending          Tension T = m (g+a)                         = 4.14 ( 9.8 + 3) = 53 N
