Operculum, ganoid scales and scutes are present in the fish family of Carangidae. It mostly lives marine water and rarely brackish. Body generally compressed and body shape also variable from very deep to fusiform. Most of the species have small cycloid scales. Scales along with lateral line often modified into spiny scutes.

Osteichthyes don’t have a defined operculum and placoid scales. It is referred to as the bony fish and it is a diverse taxonomic group of fish, which their skeletons are primarily composed of bone tissue.
