Question
Your esophagus is lined by a stratified epithelium. Why might a in ibis location than a simple epithelium? Which type of epithelium (i.e structural category) would most closely resemble a row of bricks placed side-by-side touching long their lowest dimension? Give an example (location). Why does loose connective tissue meet the general definition of connective tissue, i.e. what did you observe in the slide of areolar tissue that gives support to this classification as a connective tissue? Propose a function for the adipose tissue that you observed in the human skin (palm) other than energy storage. (Why have fat pads here?) Why does the trachea have rings of cartilage? Contrast red blood cells and white Mood cells, i.e. how did you distinguish between them? What distinguishing feature is related to the fact that white blood cells can divide whereas red cells do not? Distinguish between the three types of muscle cells on the basis of shape and striations. Explain how goblet cells (and their product) and ciliated cells of the lining of the trachea might work together for a common purpose. Relate the structure of a neuron to its function. Focus your discussion on its "extensions" or processes, i.e. the dendrites and axons.Explanation / Answer
Answer 1
The esophagus provides passage between the oral cavity to the stomach. The esophageal lining is protected by a stratified squamous epithelium. Because this epithelium is normally not exposed to dryness or t:o abrasion, it is non-keratinized. Stratified means that the cells are not only in one layer, but are stacked.Frequently, the outer surface of these epithelia is sloughed off and replaced by cells below it. the deeper layers of such epithelia ,are mitotically active.
Protection against abaration is required in esophagus so this tissue is present there.
Answer 2
Simple columnar epithelium - Present at uterine tube, Uterus.
Answer 3
Aerolar tissue connects skin and underlying muscle.Areolar Tissue is loose connective tissue that consists of a meshwork of collagen, elastic tissue, and reticular fibres.
Answer 4
Adipose tissue acts as an insulating layer, helping to reduce heat loss through the skin.It has a protective function.
Answer 5
Rings of cartilage regulates the trachea to collapse slightly so that the food can pass down the esophagus.
Answer 6
Mature red blood cells do not have nucleus(does not conatin DNA and can not synthesize RNA) where as WBCs have it. RBCs contains heamoglobin WBCs not. WBCs provides protection against pathogens(Immunity), RBCs carry oxygen.
