49. Selection against common form favoring extreme phenotypes is known as disruptive selection. It is also known as diversifying selection in which the extreme phenotypes are favored by natural selection over intermediate phenotypes. The individuals at the upper and lower ends of the curve exhibit the higher fitness than the individuals at the middle of the curve. This is known as disruptive selection. Option b is correct.

Reproductive isolation develops by different means like behavioral isolation, geographic isolation and temporal isolation. Two or more species living in a same habitat reproduce at different times is known as temporal isolation.
