A hanging spring has length 10 cm. A 100 g mass is hung from the spring , stretching it to 12 Cm what will be the length of the spring if this mass is replaced by a 200 g mass ? A hanging spring has length 10 cm. A 100 g mass is hung from the spring , stretching it to 12 Cm what will be the length of the spring if this mass is replaced by a 200 g mass ?Explanation / Answer
The stretch in the spring, x ( stretched length - original length) is proportional to force applied .
F= -k*x where k is spring constant and x is change in length of spring.
100g causes spring to stretch by 2 cm .
So for 200g, double the weight , double the force ,double the stretch and cause spring to stretch by 4 cm and total length will be 14 cm
