A bullet has just been shot from a gun and is now traveling horizontally. Air resistance is not negligible. List all the forces on the bullet. 2. Two rubber bands pulling on an object cause it to accelerate at 2.0 m/s2 a. What will be the object's acceleration if it is pulled by four rubber bands? b. What will be the acceleration of two of these objects glued together if they are pulled by two rubber bands?Explanation / Answer
1)
Gravity and Drag.
A bullet is not self-propelled; so there is no thrust
The push from the gun ends at the muzzle; so there is no gun force when "now traveling horizontally."
A normal force is a reaction force when pressing into something that pushes back; air does not do that.
2)
a) acceleration = 2 m/s2 (original acceleration) / 2 (original qty rubber bands) * 4(new qty rubber bands) = 4 m/s2
b) acceleration = 2m/s2 (original acceleration) * 1 (original qty objects) / 4 (new qty objects) = 0.5 m/s2
