Question
7. According to Newton's third law of motion, if you apply a force of 3 N to a wall, the wall must apply a force of N on you. 8. A planet is discovered that is the same size (volume as Earth, but has twice as much mass. If your weight on Earth were 750 N, what would be your weight on that planet? 9. Calculate the Net force on the person from the diagram below. Force of board on person (1000 N) Force of person on earth (900 N) Force of person on board (1000 N) Force of earth on person (900 N) 10. Calculate the mass, net force and acceleration of a 1000 N skydiver experiencing 250 N of air resistanceExplanation / Answer
7.
According to Newton's third law of motion every action has a equal and oppsite reaction,
This also means, if you are applying some force on any object a force of same magnitude will be applied by that object on you.
So if you are applying a force of 3N on the wall, the wall will also apply a force of 3N on you.
8.
We know that mass of any body will remain same irrespective of the planet he/she is on,
But wieght will vary as acceleration due to gravity changes from place to place.
We know that acceleration due to gravity(g)
g=GM/R^2
so, at a planet having twicw as mass of earth
accelration due to gravity will be twicw that on earth
So If he weighs 750N on earth he will weigh 1500N on that planet as weight is m*g.
9.
For net force on person, just add all the forces on person algebrically
So total force on person (1000-900)N
100N in the upward direction.
10.
If the weight of diver is given as 1000N
That means
Mg=1000
M=1000/9.81
M=101.936 Kg
Now net force will be
1000-250
As air is offering some drag, so net force will be some what less
So 750N will be the net force.
Also from newton's second law we know that
Ma=F
So,
750=101.936*a
a=7.357 m/s^2
