Question
1. A speeding a stationary Highway patrol officer. The officer notes that the car is moving with a constant velocity of Uc-38.02. The instant the car passes the officer, she begins the chase by accelerating at a rate of ap-135 until she catches up to the speeding car. a) If the officer and speeder cover the same distance when the officer catches up to the speeder, how long does it take for the officer to catch the car? b) What distance is covered by the officer once she catches the car? c) What is the officers velocity once she catches up to the car?Explanation / Answer
a)velocity of car=38m/s
acceleration of chaser = 1.35m/s2
distance travelled by car in time t=38t
distance travelled by chaser in time t = (1/2)*1.35*t2=0.675t2
For them to be at same position , 38t=0.675t2
t = 56.3 seconds
b)distance covered = 38*56.3=2139.26 m
c)officer's velocity = 1.35*56.3=76 m/s
