Question 9 (5 points) In the photoelectric effect, suppose that the Intensity of the ligth is increased while its frequency is kept constant. The incident frequency is greater than the cutoff frequency, fo. Let X = the number of electrons emitted per second from the metal surface KEmax = the maximum kinetic energy that an electron could have How do the quantities X and KEmax respond? A) X increases and KEmax increases. B) X decreases, but KEmax increases. C) X increases, but KEmax decreases D) X increases, but KEmax remains the same. E) X and KEmax remain the sameExplanation / Answer
option D is right answer .
If the intensity of the incident radiation of a given frequency is increased, there is no effect on the kinetic energy of each photoelectron.because kinetic energy depends upon the frequency of the incident radiation.
If we increase radiation it will increase the no of emitted electron as probabilty of hitting the electron by photons will increase but it does not change the kinetic of photon . Kinetic energy depends only frequency of incident radiation
