Having successfully boarded the cargo vessel, Defiance Drake removes her emergency spacesuit, complete with its 10 kg atmospheric bottle. However, she encounters no human crewmembers, instead she finds that the ship is host to at least one Cubarb parasite (evil creatures which are floating multicolored cubes and eat humans). She and the parasite float weightless in the freighter, at rest with respect to each other. Defiance decides to whip her air container at the parasite and flee. She exerts a force of 240 N on the canister (and herself has a mass of 70 kg). How does the force she exerted on the cannister differ from the force the cannister exerts on her? How do their accelerations compare?

Explanation / Answer

The force exerted on each by other will be equal but opposite in direction (By Newton third law )

so accleration of Drake=240/70=3.43 m/s^2

accleration of cannister=240/10=24 m/s^2 (in other direction as that of Drake)
