Explanation / Answer

Given,

C1 = 2.5 uF and C2 = 6.8F

V1 = 743 V and V2 = 572 V

a)We know that the charge is conserved. So the system will have a total charge of

Q = Q1 + Q2

Q = C1 V1 + C2 V2

Q = 2.5 uF x 743 + 6.8 uF x 572 = 5747.1 uC

Ceq = (C1 + C2) = 2.5 + 6.8 = 9.3 uF

V1' = V2' = 618 Volts ----------------> ans A and B

b) Q1 = V1' x C1 = 618 x 2.5 F = 1545 uC

Q2 = V2' x C2 = 618 x 6.8 F = 4202 uC

Hence, Q1 = 1545 uC and Q2 = 4202 uC -------------> Ans C and D
