Question
Suppose that, instead of Sphere 1 being grounded, Sphere 2 were briefly grounded at Point D.
To answer the comment, the initial charges are not given. we are just supposed to rate the charge density at each point.
What we know:
These are three conducting spheres . Spheres 1 and 2 are initially neutral and Sphere 3 initially has a net positive charge. Spheres 2 and 3 are the same size, but Sphere 1 is larger, as indicated in the diagram.
Suppose that, instead of Sphere 1 being grounded, Sphere 2 were briefly grounded at Point D. Rank the charge density at each labeled point A -- E, greatest first. Rank positive charge greater than negative charge. Include zero in your ranking. Answer:Explanation / Answer
As sphere 2 is grounded all electron will come towards D and C side will be positively charged due to protons
C now induces negative charge to side B and this side a becomes negatively charged
now magnitude of charge are equal in all ABCD with D and B negatively charged and A, C positively charged
Since radius of sphere 2 is small thus charge density will be more in sphere B
Also in sphere E charges are equally distributed so density will be less than positively charged A and C but more than negatively charged D and B
so the final order from highest to lowest will be
C A E B D with C maximum and D with minimum charge density
