Question

You're during at 50 km/h, when the traffic light 40 m away turns yellow. Find(a) the constant acceleration required stop at all the light and (b) the stopping time. Is the acceleration reasonable? A golfer putts her golf ball straight the hole. The ball's initial velocity is 2.52 m/s and it accelerates at a rate of -0.65 m/s? (a) Will the ball make it to the hole, 4.80 m away? If your answer is yes, what's the ball's velocity when it reaches the hole? If your answer is no, how does it get before stopping?

Explanation / Answer

here,

initial speed , u = 50 km/h = 13.89 m/s

s = 40 m

a)

let the constant accelration be a

v^2 - u^2 =2 * a * s

0 - 13.89^2 = 2 * a * 40

a = - 2.4 m/s^2

b)

v = u + a * t

0 = 13.89 - 2.4 * t

t = 5.76 s

c)

yes the accelration is resonable
