Question
Each of the following problems is worth ten points. Choose two of them to work out, or work all three of them. I will give you as many points as I can on two of the problems for a maximum of 20 points in this section. a. A circular loop is made from 35 turns of wire, each with radius 2.50 cm and carrying a current of 14.0 A. It is embedded in the center of a solenoid and the normal to the 35-turn loop makes an angle of 90 degree with the axis of the solenoid. The solenoid itself is 14.0 cm long and has 300 turns of wire. It carries 15 A of current. What is the net magnetic field due to the loop plus solenoid. Your answer should have both the magnitude and direction of the net B field relative to the axis of the solenoid.Explanation / Answer
B1 = u x nx I /2 xr = 0.0123 T
B2 = u x N x l = u x 30000/14 x 15 =0.04 T
Net magnetic field = Root ( 0.01232 + 0.042 ) =0.0418 T
Direction = Tan-1( 0.0123/.004) =17 degees above horizontal solenoid surface
