Question
Please provide detail explaination. Thx
You sliced your leg accidentally with an axe and lost 1.5 L of blood before you stopped the bleeding. Assume that you had 15 g% hemoglobin, 45% hematocrit and 5L of blood before your accident. The blood volume is generally made up quickly by fluid entering plasma from the ISF and from fluid intake (persons who lose blood get thirsty). What would the new hemoglobin concentration be after you have recovered a blood volume of 5L? What would the new hematocrit be? How much iron did you lose in the accident? The rate of formation of red blood cells depends in part on the recycling of iron from destroyed red blood cells, but can be increased by erythropoietin and mobilization of Fe from ferritin stores in the liver. Suppose that the life-span of the red blood cells is a constant 120 days. Suppose further that the rate of incorporation of Fe into Hb in this person is a constant 21 mg per day. Write an equation for the recovery of the hemoglobin concentration after the loss of blood. How long does it take to recover one-half of the lost Hb?Explanation / Answer
a. The blood volume is generally made up quickly by fluid entering plasma from the interstitial fluid and from fluid intake (people who lose blood get thirsty). What would the new hemoglobin concentration be after you have recovered a blood volume of 5L?
The hemoglobin content of the blood is originally 5 L x 15 g dL-1x 10 dL L-1= 750 g haemoglobin
amount lost = 1.5 L x 15 g dL-1-1225 g
amount remaining in the circulation = 750 g - 225 g =525 g of hemoglobin,
and this is distributed in 5 L of blood.
The new hemoglobin concentration = 525 g / 5 L =10.5 g %

b. What would the new hematocrit be?
The packed cell volume in the original blood
= 0.45 x 5 L = 2.25 L.
The amount lost in 1.5 L of blood is 0.45 x 1.5 L = 0.675 L
.So the new packed cell volume is 2.25L - 0.675 L = 1.575 L.
This packed cell volume is distributed in 5 L of blood after blood volume is restored.
new hematocrit =1.575 L packed cells / 5 L =0.315

How much iron did you lose in the accident?
From part A the loss of hemoglobin was 225 g.
=225 g Hb / 66,600 g Hb mol Hb-1 x4 mol Fe mol Hb-1x 55.85 g Fe mol Fe-1=0.754 g Fe---answer

Hb/dt- k Hb+S
where - k Hb is the rate of destruction and
S is the constant rate of production.
The k is the fractional turnover rate, or
1/ 120 day=0.00833 day-.
calculated from the rate of Fe incorporation
=21 mg day-1/ 55.85 g mol Fe^-1)/4 mole Fe mol Hb-166,600 g Hb mol Hb^-1= 6.26 g day^-1
dHb / (Hb - S / k)-kdt
HbHb0e-ktS / k ( 1 - e-kt)
At t=0, Hb = Hb0,
the initial hemoglobin content, and rises to S / k at t =4
Here S / k = 6.26 g day-1/ 0.00833 day-1751.5 g Hb.
Hb=Hbw+ ½ (Hb0- Hbw)
:We have
ln 2= - kt1/2t1/2Ln 2 / k0.693 / .00833 day^-1= 83.19 day-answer
This time can be considerably reduced if red blood cell synthesis is increased
