Question
Two cars, after starting from rest, traveled in a straight line directly towards one another and had a head-on inelastic collision. Before the collision Car A, mass 100 kg, had traveled east for 120 meters with an average acceleration of 4.50 m/s^2, while Car B, mass 125 kg, accelerated west at a rate of 2.90 m/s^2 for 19.0 seconds. What was the resulting velocity after the collision?

A rocket is launched upward with a constant acceleration of 165 m/s^2. After 8.00 seconds of ascension a passenger on the rocket drops a rock out of it. How long does it take for this rock to hit the ground?
Thank you so much!!!!
Explanation / Answer
for car A
v^2 = u^2 + 2aS
v^2 = 2*4.5*120
v^2 = 1080
v = 32.863 m/s
For car B
v = u + at
v = 2.9*19 = 55.1 m/s
m2v2 - m1v1 = (m1 + m2)v
125*55.1 - 100*32.863 = (100+125)v
v = 16 m/s
