Question
The drawing shows an airplane moving horizontally with a constant velocity of 115 m/s at an altitude of 1050 m. The direction to the right has been chosen as the +x direction, and upward is the +y direction. The plane releases a "care package" that falls to the ground along a curved trajectory. This situation was analyzed in Example 3. Suppose now that this plane is traveling with a horizontal velocity of +307 m/s. If all other factors remain the same, determine the time required for the package to hit the ground.
vr-115 m/s 115 m/s -L, t,x = 1 15 m/s +y y -1050 m 27 27 +x L ux = 115 m/s 2Explanation / Answer
plane is travelling in horizontal with constant velocity.
and as package fall from plane so initially it will have same velocity as plane.
for package :
v0 = 307i + 0j
in vertical , v0y = 0 for both cases.
vertical displacement, y = - 1050 m
ay = - 9.8 m/s^2
Applying y = v0y t + ay t^2 /2
- 1050 = 0 - 9.8 t^2 / 2
t = 14.6 sec (same for both cases)
