Question

1. If a projectile with a takeoff speed of 300 ms-1 will travel a horizontal distance of 7952 m...

a. Then how long will it travel horizontally if takeoff speed is changed to 150 ms-1 (angle remains the same):

b. if the initial flight time (with takeoff speed of 300 ms-was 52.8 s what will the flight time be 150 ms-1 (angle remains the same):

2. Time of flight increases from _______ to _______ degrees. Thus, maximal time of flight (when takeoff and landing heights are the same), is acheived at __________ degrees.

3. Horizontal distance increases from ________ degrees to _________ degrees and then decreases until __________ degrees. Thus, maximal horizontal distance (when takeoff and landing heights are the same) is acheived at ____________ degrees.

Explanation / Answer

Solving first question

a) time taken =distance/speed

Speed=300cos(a) where a is angle

If speed is 150

Time will be halved and speed is also halved so

Distance=speed*time=150cos(a)*7952/2*300cos(a)=1488 m

(b) flight time will be half as v is halved

So time =26.4 sec
