Question
answer the following questions in paragraph form using complete sentences. your grade will be based primarily on conceptual accuracy, clarity, and completeness, but also on the quality of your writing.
1. You are placed inside a laboratory room and told to experimentally determine whether or not there is either an electric field, a magnetic field, or both. Your experiment must determine also the strength and direction of each field, if it exists. Describe your experiment.
2. Write a letter to grandma and tell her the answer to what has been a mystery for centuries - what the nature of light is. In other words, explain to her how light is related to electricity and magnetism.
Explanation / Answer
I will start the experiment with the injection of a charged particle moving with constant velocity. If this velocity is remains constant with time then there is no electric field otherwise there is.
F = q×E
If there is any deflection in the path of the particle then there is magnetic field otherwise not.
F = q(v×B)
In this way one can easily determine the presence of electric and magnetic fields.
