Question

Use the process of evolution by natural selection (hint: it's a two step process) to explain the following patterns: A) origin of life resulted from the rise of self replicating molecules B) origin of eukaryotes resulted from endosymbiosis of host archaean cells and specialized bacterial cells Use the process of evolution by natural selection (hint: it's a two step process) to explain the following patterns: A) origin of life resulted from the rise of self replicating molecules B) origin of eukaryotes resulted from endosymbiosis of host archaean cells and specialized bacterial cells A) origin of life resulted from the rise of self replicating molecules B) origin of eukaryotes resulted from endosymbiosis of host archaean cells and specialized bacterial cells

Explanation / Answer

A) origin of life resulted from the rise of self replicating molecules

According to the process of evolution by natural selection, some traits of the self replicating molecules were retained, where as, certain traits observed variations in the subsequent generations to adapt to the changing environment. With these variations, the coming generations continuously improved and became more and more adaptible to the changing environment which included: changes in climate, changes in availability of food and shelter and increase in the number of competitors. On retaining certain traits, the core identity of the replicating molecule was retained. According to the process of natural selection, most populations had more offspring each year than local resources could support leading to a struggle for resources. Therefore, each generation experienced substantial mortality and therefore insured survival of the fittest, which could adapt to the changes in the environment.
