Then a 15.0 gram sample material, initially at 100 degree C, is placed in the calorimeter. The system comes to thermal equilibrium at 76 degree C. What is the Specific Heat of the Sample?

a) Let the equilibrium temperature be T

Heat gained = Heat lost

m1*c*(T- 23) = m2*c*(100 - T)

or     150(T - 23) = 80( 100 - T)

or     230*T = 8000 + 3450 = 11450

or        T = 49.78 oC

b) Thermal energy transferred , Q = m2*c*(100 - T) = 80*4.18*(100 - 49.78) = 16792.7 J

c) can be calculated using the above method.
